Devil and Tom Walker

The Devil and Tom Walker was a most interesting read, but it mostly told of the things we as humans shouldn’t do. The greed or avarice as I like to call it for it gives off a more menacing tone is a fault and will always be a fault of humans. We hold an avarice like no other. We want everything, literally EVERYTHING! We go through life wishing we had certain qualities and hoping to attain them, but we take it a little too far. We make ourselves believe in something we really don’t even care about. We will want something knowing that we don’t really need it, but the greed builds itself up and we can’t stop our own avarice. Avarice is not only corruption, it is a sort of gluttony. We feed ourselves so much of avarice, we become consumed by it. Avarice begins to take over our own mind states and ways of thinking. Those who let it go too far become over confident and in some cases megalomaniacs. Greed affects all parts of us. If we gain too much and become used too it, we begin too feel that is a naturally adaption and we will keep gaining it in the future. We can deny that we hold no real greed, but that is not true. Even those that help others on a daily basis are greedy. They seek the satisfaction that they have done something good even if they don’t receive the thanks they should have. I can say that is a personal greed, but it is at the same time not a bad type of greed. That is where greed can be confusing at some point. There is a good type of greed and a bad type. A good type of greed could be best described as one that could affect someone else and be done for impersonal goals. A bad type of greed could be described as doing only for personal profit and/ or goals. It is difficult to imagine greed as being a good thing only due to the fact it is one of the seven deadly sins, but also for the fact that it can be used and described in a variety of ways. All in all the main point of the Devil and Tom Walker was that Tom was greedy and in every sense of the word, and I can’t find any statement that could refute that.
